Jeet Kune Do

Jeet Kune Do (JKD) is the name Bruce Lee gave to his own personal theories and principles on street fighting and self defense.

At AMAA we can trace our direct linage to Sijo Bruce Lee. Sifu Anderson has been a senior Instructor under Guro Dan Inosanto and the New York City representative for the Inosanto Academy for over 20 years. Every single student training at Andersons Martial Arts Academy can trace their lineage directly to Bruce Lee.

BRUCE LEE GURO DAN INOSANTO SIFU ANDERSON YOU

JKD was designed by Bruce Lee and Dan Inosanto. This martial art system and fighting strategy is quick, effective, and limitless. Emphasizing the “ranges of combat,” students are taught to confidently and with ease “flow” from long distance (“kicking-range”) to middle distance (“hand-range”) to close quarters (“trapping & grappling range”).

The movements are crisp and efficient, utilizing the most direct lines and angles. JKD affords the practitioner a means by which to effectively pursue the most direct line of attack. Once an attack has been launched, there are no breaks or interruptions. As one technique nears completion, it starts to blend into the next and so forth: one continuous flowing motion until the conflict is resolved.

Anderson’s Martial Arts (AMAA) has been teaching JKD to our New York City community for over two decades. We are still the only school in Manhattan equipped with the knowledge, lineage and certification under the Inosanto Academy to bring this art to the public. AMAA Students are able to enhance their natural attributes, such as coordination, timing, speed, endurance, strength and agility, using the innovative teaching and training methods developed by Bruce Lee, and preserved and taught to today by his protégé, student and training partner, Dan Inosanto.

ANDERSON’S JKD CLASSES WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO FUNCTION OUT OF ALL 5 RANGES OF FIGHTING:

  • Kicking
  • Punching
  • Trapping
  • Grappling
  • Weapons (defense & offense)

Our goal for our students is to help them become well-rounded fighters who can adapt to any range, opponent, or situation. JKD was created to not only make fighting quick and simple, but also open-ended, so that the user can blend his/her own styles and preferences into the mix and have their own unique product. Our school teaches you the correct way to do this effectively, at any age.

JKD’s movements are crisp and efficient, utilizing the most direct lines and angles. Anderson’s Martial Art’s JKD classes affords the practitioner a means by which to effectively pursue the most direct line of attack. Once an attack has been launched, there are no breaks or interruptions until your opponent(s) are finished.

As one technique nears completion, it starts to blend into the next and so forth: one continuous flowing motion until the conflict is resolved. That is JKD. These techniques are taught in our JKD 1, 2 & 3 Classes, as well as our JKD Streetfighting classes. The mentality is also deeply rooted into every art and class we offer, both sport and combat. Students are taught to blend all of the arts we teach and, as a result, have the best possible preparation for any situation that may arise.

*Beginners and those with experience are welcome to all classes. We will start you at JKD 1 and you will then continue to JKD 2 & 3.

*As in every class, we typically have multiple instructors helping and guiding our students.
